Tucking Her In

Marge the Cat gazing fixedly.

I recently determined my human needs a little extra attention at bedtime. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of caring for her in such a way before now, but I suppose it is better to be late with my love than never to have loved at all.

I still quietly join them for their nightly conversation beside the sleeping place and then briefly wander the house for a time seeking monsters, insects, and things I can shove off surfaces. However, before creeping to my spot beside her legs, I return to give special attention to my female human.

Just as she reclines to rest upon her back, I draw near and climb upon her chest, my nose and paws inches from her face. I settle in and gaze fixedly at her eyes for a time until I can feel the rising and falling of her chest slowing. I am confident she appreciates this new gesture of affection because she stays very still until I move away to my preferred position near her legs.

I’m very dedicated and take this duty seriously, fulfilling my tasks with regularity. I think, perhaps, the male human is jealous of my connection with her, but I can only give such focus to one human at a time - after all, there is only one of me! If he would wait his turn, I would tuck him in for the night as well, but he is often asleep before I have completed my soothing of my favorite human.

I sometimes think she misses me when I leave because she begins to toss and turn for a time. I regret that I cannot remain in the same spot all through the night, but honestly, that would be asking a lot. She isn’t that comfortable to recline upon, and I must maintain my hours of rest. My beauty sleep is of utmost importance! I can sacrifice a few minutes to offer my attention, but I’ll have to rest throughout the following day. You see, it's really all about me.
